The state of Virginia expanded Medicaid as of 2019.

Before that, about 138,000 people were in the coverage gap not eligible for Medicaid in Virginia, and also not eligible for premium subsidies because their income was too low .

As a result of Medicaid Expansion, enrollment in the Medicaid program grew to more than 494,000 by December 2020.

Additionally, the Medicaid expansion legislation included a work requirement, along with premiums and cost-sharing.

However, those requirements were later withdrawn.

Nevada Medicaid Expansion Update

Nevadas then-Governor Brian Sandoval announced in December 2012 that the state would expand Medicaid starting in 2014.

Governor Sandoval was the first Republican governor to commit to expanding Medicaid.

The state projected about 78,000 people would be newly eligible for Medicaid as a result of the expansion.

However, more than 200,000 were enrolled in expanded Medicaid within the first three years.

Governor Sandoval vetoed a Medicaid buy-in program in 2017.

The State counts earned and unearned income differently. For example, a paycheck from your current employer is considered earned.
