What Do I Get For My Money

A Day in the Life with Primary Care Physician Melissa Love, MD

This is a great question we get often. I think its important for people to understand what theyre paying for both here at Family Focus, and at other practices, especially since we do not take insurance .

Our services are covered with the payments for the appointments. People often need additional services such as letters, completion of school or disability forms, collaboration with therapists, referrals for additional treatment, emails and phone calls about clinical or medication issues, working with insurance companies to get you the right medication whether this involves a prior authorization or an appeal, working with pharmacies regarding refills between visits, interpreting genetic testing results and labs, and a host of other behind the scenes interventions. Each practitioner here has elected to waive any potential fee for these extras. Its considered part of our service to you, our client. Our prices may be a little higher than other clinics, but we use these appointment fees to cover time we spend on you even outside of the appointment.

Many other clinics/clinicians charge for these services in addition to your visit, and its not always discussed until you need it. I recently paid hundreds of dollars for letters to be written on my childs behalf by a community advocate without realizing there would be a fee.

Over 75 Years Of Caring For Generations

In 1946, four physicians returned from World War II with the idea of creating a multispecialty practice. Over 75 years later, we have grown into the largest independent medical group practice in the state of Louisiana with over 150 physicians, 25 specialties, and multiple locations.

Though the world around us may have changed dramatically, our philosophy remains the same- 1 patient at a time.

Kenneth D Todd Md Reviews

NeuroMedical Center Clinic in Baton Rouge, LA

I’ve known Dr. Tod, and have treated with him for consistently for 23 years now.He is the most wonderful man and Dr. He truly is a real person, like his patients and relates to all of his patients with care and concern. He’s always been there for me through stages of trauma and manic depression as well as a trusted friend. His heart is as big as he is, physically, and is a gentleman with compassion and love.On top of that, Mr. Pete, his assistant for many years, is as kind as Dr. Todd and always has Dr. Todd on schedule and together they make an amazing team of compassion and love serving their patients.I’ve referred him to many friends and family over the 20 + years I’ve seen him and all. have.loved him

Dr. Todd is an outstanding doctor and has treated me extremely well over these past few years. His diagnosis and treatment plan is perfect and has enabled me to regain my life back after many psychotic episodes and bipolar mania. I would recommend him to anyone! My life is stable again and I am getting better every day because of his treatment plan for me. I thank him and may God Bless his great work.

I have been seeing Dr. Todd for almost ten years and have come to depend on him and have so much respect for him and his assistant Pete. They have helped me in so many ways. I never want him to retire!!!

Do You Take My Insurance

While we are not in-network providers for any insurance companies, there is potential for reimbursement. We provide detailed receipts that can be submitted to your insurance company. If you have mental health coverage, these may work toward your deductible or may be eligible for some reimbursement once your deductible is met. Each plan is different, so coverage options differ from person to person. Need Or Greed Psychiatrists Shun Louisiana Medicaid’s Low Pay

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Donald Schexnayder drives more than 50 miles from his New Orleans-area home to a state mental-health clinic in the Ascension Parish town of Gonzales, where he sees low-income children who would not otherwise have access to a child psychiatrist.

The pay rate is low for a medical doctor with an established and thriving private practice in a large metropolitan area — practicing a specialty greatly in demand.

But Schexnayder, who believes doctors must give back to their communities, would rather put up with the inconvenience than deal with a state Medicaid system he says is too cumbersome.

“I don’t actually treat people on Medicaid because I found that I don’t get paid,” Schexnayder said. “I know one child psychiatrist in New Orleans who does take Medicaid payments. … I don’t even send in claim forms anymore if I do see someone on Medicaid.”

Doctors said that while the state does respond to claim forms, more than one attempt is sometimes required because the state needs lengthy verification and explanation of psychiatric services rendered – more so than with other medical services.

Psychiatrists interviewed said that, generally, their rate of pay under the state’s Medicaid system is the same received by pediatricians — $25 to $40 per visit. Yet child psychiatrists normally charge anywhere from $125 to $175 or more, and the specialists have ample opportunities for business without having to take Medicaid clients.
