One of the most important steps you can take to protect your health and well-being is to get an annual flu shot. Each year thousands of people are hospitalized because of complications from the flu. Thats why we encourage all our members to get their yearly flu vaccination.
Most Independence Blue Cross members with prescription drug coverage will pay $0 for a flu shot at an in-network pharmacy or provider.¹ Members will not need a referral, precertification, or preapproval to get their seasonal flu vaccine.
Whether in or outside of our service area, members should be able to receive a flu shot from in-network providers without having to pay upfront or submit a form for reimbursement.

Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Cover Home Health Care
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage plans cover home health care services such as intermittent skilled nursing care, and some plans may also cover things like caregiver support, home-delivered meals, bathroom grab bar installation and more.
Home health care benefits can be an important part of an older adults health insurance coverage. Many seniors wish to age in place at home for as long as possible, but many may lack the independence to do so unassisted.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage plans provide all of the same home health care benefits that are found in Original Medicare for plan members who have been deemed homebound and need part-time or intermittent skilled nursing care can qualify.
Some Anthem BCBS Medicare plans may also cover additional home health care services such as non-emergency medical transportation, home meal delivery, home health aides, caregiver support and more.
All Medicare Advantage plans including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare plans are required to cover at least the same benefits covered by Original Medicare. Many Medicare Advantage plans also offer other extra benefits not covered by Original Medicare, such as dental, hearing, vision, telehealth and more.

- Outpatient Clinic – These services include but are not limited to individual and group therapies. These services are aimed to help improve a childs ability to function in the community. The intensity and extent of visits will vary based on a childs need.
- Crisis Intervention – Services provided by a crisis team to a child who is experiencing or is at immediate risk of having a psychiatric crisis. The service is designed to interrupt and/or lessen a crisis.
- Psychiatric Inpatient – A hospital-based program that includes 24/7 psychiatric, medical, nursing, and social services to allow for the assessment and/or treatment of a child with a primary diagnosis of mental illness who cannot be fully served in the community.
- Psychological or Neuropsychological Testing These services are offered to a child who may be suffering from a mental illness. They are similar to a medical test because they allow the professional serving you to better understand your way of thinking. They can also help children and their families to figure out the most appropriate type of treatment based on the results.

- Assertive Community Treatment A comprehensive and integrated set of psychiatric, psychosocial rehabilitation, case management, and support services for individuals 18 and older. Services are provided by a mobile multi-disciplinary mental health treatment program mainly in the clients residence or other community locations.
- Personalized Recovery Oriented Services A comprehensive recovery program for individuals 18 and older with severe mental illness. The goal of the program is to integrate treatment, support, and rehabilitation in a manner that facilitates the individuals recovery.
- Continuing Day Treatment A program that provides individuals 18 and older with mental illness the skills and supports necessary to remain in the community and/or work toward a more independent level of functioning. Participants often attend several days per week with visits lasting more than an hour.
- Partial Hospitalization A program that provides active treatment designed to stabilize or reduce acute symptoms in a person who would otherwise need hospitalization.
- Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program A hospital-based emergency program that offers/provides access to crisis outreach, intervention, and residential services and/or provides beds for the extended observation to adults who need emergency mental health services.

For many adults, getting chickenpox was an unavoidable part of childhood. But if youve had chickenpox, you also have a 1 in 3 chance of developing shingles. Thats because the virus that causes chickenpox never leaves your body completely. Rather, it lies dormant and can reemerge later as shingles.
Thankfully, there are things you can do to protect yourself from getting shingles. Heres what you need to know:
What is shingles? Shingles is a painful skin rash with blisters that can lead to long-term nerve pain. It can also cause fever, headache, chills, and upset stomach. The blisters typically scab over in 7 to 10 days and fully clear up within 2 to 4 weeks.
Is shingles serious? In some cases, shingles may have serious complications. The most common is long-term nerve pain. If the rash occurs on the face, shingles could affect the eye and cause vision loss.
What causes shingles? Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you have had chickenpox, the virus remains inactive in your body and if/when re-activated will cause shingles.
The exact reason why the virus reactivates and causes shingles is unclear. But it may be due to lowered immunity to infections as you grow older.
