I Followed In My Fathers Footsteps

Improving the Documentation of Chiropractic Services

My dad is a chiropractor, so I grew up learning about this profession. I remember all the times my dad would adjust me and share with me how to live a healthy lifestyle through chiropractic care. While in high school, I also spent summers working in his office and I got to see first-hand how his patients benefited from his expertise. Not surprisingly, this put me on a path to becoming a chiropractor too.

After receiving my undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina, I attended Life University in Marietta, Georgia, where I received my doctorate degree in chiropractic care. Following graduation, I joined my sister in practice. Then, in the fall of 2012, I opened Davis Family Chiropractic right here in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Every day I get the opportunity to serve the wonderful people in our community, and I wouldnt have it any other way!

Working With Children Is My Calling

My dream was always to work with children, so when I realized I could do both chiropractic care and specialize in pregnancy and pediatrics, I knew Id found my calling. Im so grateful to be doing what I love and to be one of only four chiropractors in the state with a Diplomate in Pediatrics and Pregnancy Care. My heart is especially full when parents say that their children look forward to visiting our office and are healthier when they come in for regular adjustments.

New From The 2018 Legislative Short Session Ncsl 2018

  • Dentists and ambulatory surgical centers are required to submit clinical and demographic data by June 1, 2021.
  • Pharmacies are required to submit claims data pertaining to State services once per day by June 1, 2021, using pharmacy industry standardized formats.

To meet the states mandate, a Medicaid provider is connected when its clinical and demographic information pertaining to services paid for by Medicaid and other State-funded health care funds are being sent to NC HealthConnex, at least twice dailyeither through a direct connection or via a hub . Participation agreements signed with the designated entity would need to list all affiliate connections.

Lets just wait and see how this computer system turns out. Hopefully we dont have a second rendition of NCTracks. We all know how well that turned out. Seeblog and blog.

Medicaid participation continues to get more and more complicated. Remember the day when you could write a service note with a pen? That was so much cheaper than investing in computers and software. When did it get so expensive to provide health care to the most needy?

If You Do Not Comply And Link Your Health Care Practice To Nc Healthconnex By June 1 2019 You Could Lose Your Medicaid Contract

Back In Balance Chiropractic & Physical Therapy ...

As North Carolina moves into data-driven, value-based health care, the NC HIEA is working to modernize the state-designated health information exchange, now called NC HealthConnex.About NC HealthConnexwebsite.

NC HIEA = NC Health Information Exchange Authority and created by N.C. Gen. Stat. § 90-414.7. North Carolina Health Information Exchange Authority.

North Carolina state law mandates that all health care providers who receive any State funds, which would include Medicaid, HealthChoice and the State Health Plan, must connect and submit patient demographic and clinical data to NC HealthConnex by June 1, 2019. The process could take 12 to 18 months. So you better get going. Move it or lose it, literally. If you do not comply, you can lose your license to participate in state-funded programs, including Medicaid.

If you go to the NC Health Information Exchange Authority website article, entitled, NC HealthConnex Participant Base Continues to Grow, you will see the following:

I highlighted the Session Law that, according to the above, requires that health care providers who receive state funds must connect to NC HealthConnex. See above. However, when you actually read Session Law 2017-57, it is untrue that Session Law 2017-57 mandates that health care providers who receive state funds must connect to NC HealthConnex.

If you follow the citation by NC HIEA , you will see that buried in Session Law 2017-57, the 2017 Appropriations Bill, is a clause that states:

However, Ive seen the results firsthand. As a practicing chiropractor since 1999, Ive served thousands of patients and witnessed the life-changing effects of chiropractic care.

What I often tell people is that everyone has a spine and nervous system and can benefit from chiropractic care. Anytime there is stress on your nervous system, your body may not function properly.

For example, as a pregnant woman, you might have persistent lower back pain. As a newborn, you might struggle to latch or breastfeed. As a toddler, you might experience digestive issues that threaten proper nourishment.

Believe it or not, these issues are all related to your nervous system and they can all improve with chiropractic care.

What Chiropractors Accept Medicare

More than 264 million workdays are lost each year due to back pain according to the American Chiropractic Association. Thats a loss of $100 billion dollars in lost wages and medical care.

Chiropractors can help relieve back pain, but usually many visits are required. Those costs can really add up. Insurance and Medicare can help pay for those expensive visits.

Are there Medicare chiropractic offices near me? There are many chiropractors that accept Medicare, but they vary by state. Each state will have its own list of chiropractors that accepts Medicare.

However, Medicare doesnt pay for all chiropractic care. Medicare Plan B will only pay 80% of costs for manual manipulation of the spine.

You will be responsible for the other 20% of your costs as well as any services not covered under Medicare.

Rates from chiropractors that accept Medicare can include x-rays, massage therapy, and acupuncture that is not covered. Also, the number of visits allowed will vary by person.

Patients should carefully look at quotes from chiropractors that accept Medicare to be fully aware of charges they will personally be responsible for.

Does The Chiropractor Take My Insurance

This should be at the top of the consideration list when looking for a new Chiropractor in Raleigh. While most Chiropractors do take health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, some do not. The ones that do not typically require purchasing large amounts of treatment upfront where payments are broken up into monthly payments. Others require a membership where there is a monthly fee. The cost per treatment may be lower but there is also a monthly fee for access to the clinic whether you use the service that month or not.

If youre involved in a car accident or work injury, finding a chiropractic clinic experienced in billing third-party payers is important. In most circumstances, the workers compensation insurance or car insurance will cover reasonable and medically necessary treatment after a car accident or work-related injury. But again, only a percentage of chiropractic offices in Raleigh are experienced in these types of billing matters.

At Carolina ChiroCare and Rehab we are Chiropractors in Raleigh who accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Cigna, Aetna, Medicare, and United Healthcare health insurance. Misconceptions About Medicaid Chiropractic Billing

Do we accept Medicare and Medicaid: Oldsmar Chiropractor Dr. Bode

by ACOM Health | Jul 24, 2019 | Chiropractic Billing Services

Is spinal manipulation a covered service under Medicare? Can Doctors of Chiropractic opt out of Medicare? Depending on who you ask within the chiropractic community, youll probably get a variety of answers to these questions and they might very well be inaccurate. Thats because when it comes to Medicare and its regulations as it relates to chiropractic services, theres plenty of misinformation out there.

Thanks to the Department of Health and Human Services, weve got answers. Here are eight common misconceptions about Medicare and chiropractic billing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has outlined, along with factual explanations to help clear the air. For more details regarding each of the following issues, see this handy and printable CMS fact sheet, from which we are sharing this information.

Misconception #1: There is a 12-visit cap or limit for chiropractic services.

Facts: There are actually no limits or caps in Medicare for covered chiropractic care provided by chiropractors, as long as they meet Medicares licensure and other requirements detailed in the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, Chapter 15, Section 30.5.

Misconception #2: Non-participating providers do not have to worry about billing Medicare.

Misconception #3: If you are a non-par provider, you will never be audited nor have claims reviewed.

Misconception #4: You can opt out of Medicare.

What Medicare Plans Cover Chiropractic Care

Medicare is offered to Americans age 65 and older. However, there are many different plans to meet your specific needs.

Medicare Part B only offers basic chiropractic care. It will pay 80% of costs related to spinal sublimation, which means bones in your spine are out of position.

Medicare Part B doesnt cover any other chiropractic services. However, if a physician orders your x-ray instead of your chiropractor, Medicare will cover the cost.

Medicare Advantage Plans may offer additional chiropractic coverage, but rates will be higher. Chiropractors may also have to be in-network to be covered.

There are also Medicare Supplement plans that help cover your copays if you have basic Medicare coverage. Medicare Advantage participants are not eligible for these supplemental plans.

Private insurance companies offer many types of Medicare plans, and rates will be different for each one.

No matter which plan you choose, there are rules to be followed and guidelines that must be met, such as the Medicare guidelines for chiropractic documentation.

Read our guide to Medicare to learn more about the plans and coverages offered.

Does The Chiropractor Offer Other Services Like Physiotherapy Or X

Many Chiropractors only offer adjustments to the spine. Many health conditions like nerve pain, sciatica, chronic headaches, and disc-related issues respond better when chiropractic adjustments are combined with physical therapy like exercises, stretches, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound therapy, traction therapy, or massage therapy.

Finding a new Chiropractor In Raleigh experienced with advanced diagnostics like X-ray, MRI, ultrasound, basic lab work or CT scans should be taken into consideration. Many chiropractic offices in Raleigh have X-ray on-site and some do not. If your conditions require an X-ray you will have to make another appointment offsite which may be inconvenient for your schedule.

Many of these items discussed above will have an impact on how many visits to the Chiropractor it will take until you feel better. Read more here.
