BUFFALO BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York will begin offering Medicaid Managed Care products to residents in Niagara and Genesee counties on Feb. 1.
The expansion, approved by the state health department, follows BCBS’ launching of an alliance with Amerigroup Partnership Plan to help administer the companys Medicaid Managed Care programs. The alliance allowed BlueCross BlueShield to remain in Medicaid long term, and help mitigate persistent financial losses sustained in the program, according to Stephen T. Swift, BCBS executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Since the alliance with Amerigroup began in November of 2016, BCBS’ Medicaid and Child Health Plus membership has grown by approximately 33 percent.
The alliance broadened Medicaid coverage options for thousands of Western New Yorkers, according to J.P. Holland, Amerigroup’s vice president of Medicaid partnerships. Approximately 37,000 Niagara County residents, and 8,500 Genesee County residents, are enrolled in Medicaid Managed Care programs.
One of our top priorities is to ensure access to high-quality health care services, and this expansion will help us achieve that goal while we continue to improve health outcomes across our state, Holland said.
