Common Questions About 3d/4d Ultrasound

High Risk Pregnancy: Ultrasound Services

The questions listed below are the most frequently asked questions about our Elective Prenatal 3D & 4D Ultrasound packages. Should you have any questions that are not answered below, please call us at 634-5669 or feel free to send us an email at

Q: What is elective ultrasound?

We offer elective 2D, 3D & 4D, plus HDLive prenatal ultrasounds to provide a proactive, positive bonding experience for the mother, father and family members with the unborn baby. Realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family. A medical, diagnostic ultrasound should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies, as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy.

Q: Do I need a referral? No, but we do require you see your healthcare provider before visiting.

Q: Is ultrasound technology safe?

Prenatal ultrasound is now the standard diagnostic examination. Extensive studies over 40 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any maternal or fetal harm. Routine diagnostic scanning of all pregnancies is now a normal procedure. 3D/4D scans use EXACTLY the same type and intensity of ultrasonic waves as in conventional 2D scan. A little known fact, for at risk pregnancies, the number of ultrasound examinations are actually increased.

Q: Do I need an appointment?

Q: How long will my appointment last?

Q: What are the recommended ultrasound timelines?

Pros And Cons Of Breast Ultrasound

When there are questions about a mammogram finding or a mammogram cannot be performed, a doctor may recommend a breast ultrasound to get more information.

A breast ultrasound is a relatively low-cost test that uses sound waves to generate an image of the breasts. It is hard to detect small abnormalities like breast calcifications on ultrasound, but it can be a helpful test for people with cysts, masses, and breast implants.

Using a mammogram and breast ultrasound together improves the detection of breast cancer in people with dense breasts. One study shows that sensitivity increased from 74% with mammogram alone to 96% when both studies were used.

More breast cancers are detected thanks to breast ultrasound. Case in point, states with dense breast notification laws have seen an increase in the number of ultrasounds performed and the number of cancers diagnosed.

These laws require a letter be sent to anyone whose mammogram shows dense breast tissue, even if their mammogram was otherwise normal, to let them know about their increased risk for cancer.

Unfortunately, breast ultrasounds increase false positive results too. This means that people who do not have cancer could be told they might have it. This can lead to unnecessary worry and testing.

Does Medicare Cover Mammograms After Age 65

Medicare does cover mammograms for women aged 65-69. Annual screening mammograms have 100% coverage. Medicare pays 80% of the cost of diagnostic mammograms. Mammograms remain an important cancer detection tool as you age. Twenty-five percent of breast cancer diagnoses involve women aged 65-74. A U.S. Preventive Service task force found that women aged 60-69 who had regular mammograms had a 33 percent lower risk of dying from breast cancer. The task force and other organizations recommend that women in their 60s have screening mammograms every other year. The American Cancer Society recommends them every year.

Take Time Texas And Caregiver Support

Taking care of another person can mean a lot of hard work and hard-earned money. Thats why Texas Health and Human Services provides respite for Texas caregivers. If you need a break from caring for someone, whether its to meet a friend or run an errand, you can find a respite provider to watch after your loved one.

Caregivers who dont take time for themselves are more likely to develop chronic health conditions due to stress and lack of rest. Its also more likely that a primary caregiver does not have a job of his or her own. If you or someone you love is a caregiver, he or she should apply for Medicaid or another state program that can help cover the costs of that care. To find out if you qualify, call 1-855-937-2372.

It`s always a great sensation to see your unborn child, but it`s a lot more important to actually know that he or she is healthy, that the pregnancy is going in a great the best direction possible. That`s why, even if for some weird reason or superstition you dont want to see your unborn child, you should still take a 3d or 4d ultrasound to get information regarding health and to check for malformations. Thats why the cost shouldnt be an issue and you should do whatever it takes to ensure that youll have a healthy child.

Should I Pay Extra For 3d Mammogram

The extra amount patients pay help doctors recoup that expense. Theres also the question of whether the new technology is more beneficial to younger women with dense breast tissue, where tumors may be harder to spot, than to older women. Generally after menopause a womans breast tissue becomes less dense.

Is It Safe Are There Any Risks To Me Or My Baby

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D scanning exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning. 3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.

Preparing For Your Mammogram

Theres not much you have to do to prepare for your mammogram once your appointment is scheduled. Since breasts can be tender the week before and during menstruation, consider scheduling your mammogram one or two weeks after your period starts.

You may not want to wear deodorant, lotion or perfume the day of your appointment, as it can sometimes show up in the mammogram. Youll also want to wear a two piece outfit so you can only have to remove your top and remain as comfortable as possible during the mammogram.

Which Medicare Options Cover Mammograms

Medicare Part B covers medically necessary outpatient diagnostic and treatment services. You can get screened for breast cancer with Medicare coverage once a year. In 2022, the Medicare Part B deductible has an annual out-of-pocket cost of $233, which must be met before covering medically necessary services.

Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage plans, is a private insurance plan that offers more benefits than Original Medicare and provides all Medicare Part B coverage. Because of this, you will automatically receive coverage for your mammogram.

Breast Cancer Screenings Are Important

There are 2 types of mammograms: screening and diagnostic. The 3D mammogram is a diagnostic mammogram, but many oncologists militate against it. From their standpoint, 3D mammograms are no more efficient than the 2D ones.

Medicare will cover a mammogram only if its a yearly, routine screening. If its a diagnostic, Medicare will not cover it. Other medical insurance programs shy away from paying for 3D mammograms, as well.

This is because so many oncologists have pointed out that they are as efficient as a simple 2D mammogram. Moreover, they mentioned that women expose themselves to a higher intake of radiation by undertaking 3D mammograms, given that these are done only as a combo with their 2D counterparts.

Paradoxically, this excessive subjection to radiation can cause breast cancer. Why would the combo mammogram be necessary? Its simple: theres not enough proof that the 3D mammogram is accurate enough on its own.

If youve ever stepped foot in a radiology center, you will have seen that the 3D mammogram was advertised everywhere as a better alternative to the 2D one.

How can that be when oncologists are all raging at the mere thought of women actually thinking that theyre doing themselves a favor by getting hit with huge doses of radiation?

Nc Medicaid Paying For 3d Ultrasound

Anyone heard anything about that? Someone told me she was getting one & that medicaid was paying for it… I’d always heard they only pay for the anatomy scan & then any that your doctor feels necessary…

I know what you mean. I’m at a clinic where meducaid doesn’t pay for it and my friend told me she knows a place where medicaid does pay for it…ill message u the place when i get ahold of her….nd i think theres one in greensboro too

  • toman903Last edited 8/31/11

If her doctor thinks it’s necessary, then it would be covered. My insurance pays for 1, plus any necessary. I’ve had 2 so far, and I am not even 9 weeks yet, so I am sure I will have more. With DD, I had 3 with the OB, since DD was not cooperative at the anatomy scan, I had to go back for a couple re-do’s.

The Best Time To View Baby

Ayusya Home Health Care Pvt Ltd

For the best image with a 3D/4D ultrasound, it is recommended to be performed sometime during 22-34 weeks gestation. It is possible for our medical providers to visualize your baby sooner or later, but the images may not be as clear due to underdevelopment if done too early, or there may be limited visualization because of the babys size at 34+ weeks.

Getting A Dbt Mammogram

Getting a DBT mammogram is similar to getting a 2D mammogram.

A DBT mammography machine provides both a 2D mammogram and an enhanced 3D image based on multiple 2D images. All the images are taken on the same machine, so you stay in one place while all the images are taken.

A DBT mammogram takes a few seconds longer than a 2D mammogram because more images are taken. If youve had a 2D mammogram in the past, you may not notice a difference.

DBT may give a slightly higher radiation dose than standard 2D mammography . This higher dose is within FDA guidelines .

Owning an elective ultrasound facility, I often get the age old question When is the best time to come in for a 3D/4D ultrasound? My facetious response: When youre pregnant.

My professional business response: Well, that depends

I know, neither of the responses are very helpful right?! But let me elaborate a bit more on my professional business response. The best time to come in for a 3D/4D ultrasound really depends on what you want to see. Below is a breakdown on what to expect during an ultrasound depending on how many weeks pregnant you are:

During all stages of the pregnancy the most important element that influences the clarity of pictures is the amount of fluid the mom drinks, the days or even weeks, leading up to the appointment. Staying extra hydrated will ensure there is enough fluid in the amniotic sac to see the baby in elaborate detail.

Can You See Birth Defects On A 3d Ultrasound

They let you see your babys face for the first time. Some doctors like 3D and 4D ultrasounds because they can show certain birth defects, such as cleft palate, that might not show up on a standard ultrasound. Studies suggest that 3D and 4D ultrasounds are safe.

What is the difference between a 3D ultrasound and a regular ultrasound?

A regular 2-D ultrasound creates a cross-sectional view of your baby. In a 3-D ultrasound, many 2-D images are taken from various angles and pieced together to form a three-dimensional image. This looks more like what youre used to seeing in a typical photograph.
