Peach State Health Plan And Morehouse School Of Medicine Establish Health Equity Innovation Fund To Improve Health Outcomes In Black Communities

Atlanta, Ga. Peach State Health Plan and Morehouse School of Medicine have established the Peach State Excellence in Health Equity Innovation Fund and Initiative, a partnership that will enhance health outcomes and equity for Black communities across Georgia. The new initiative was launched with a $500,000 donation from Peach State Health Plan and will provide seed funding to many of Morehouse School of Medicines health-equity innovation efforts in education, clinical innovation, community service, research excellence, and pipeline programs.
The new partnership with Peach State Health Plan will help our students, researchers, and faculty address the healthcare disparities in Black communities throughout Georgia, said President and Dean Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD. Morehouse School of Medicine, as one of the nations few historically Black medical schools, intimately understands this challenge and is uniquely positioned to address it. The gift from Peach State Health Plan will allow us to do more of what we do best.

Peach State Health Plan Donates Baby Formula To Local Providers To Address Supply Shortages Across Georgia
ATLANTA, July 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — This week, to help alleviate ongoing supply shortages of baby formula, Peach State Health Plan continued its efforts to deliver critically-needed infant and baby formula to Georgia’s medical providers in underserved areas around the state. Over 200 cannisters of formula have been distributed to pediatric clinics in Southwest Georgia and Atlanta, providing approximately 4,200 meals to feed newborns and babies of parents and families struggling to access this critical resource.
“The increased cost and scarce availability of baby formula is putting undue stress on Georgia’s communities, and negatively impacting the health of newborns and their families,” said Wade Rakes, CEO and President of Peach State Health Plan. “Some of the most negatively impacted are those living in rural and underserved regions of the state, and Peach State Health Plan is committed to help provide formula to areas that are in the greatest need.”
Across the country over the past few months, parents and healthcare providers saw the availability of formula in stores diminish and prices on the secondary market soar. While supplies are slowly returning, many underserved and rural areas of the state are still experiencing critical shortages, causing parents across Georgia to continue to struggle to find formula. Peach State Health Plan And The Medical College Of Georgia At Augusta University Select 2022 Peach State Scholars
ATLANTA, Aug. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — This week, leaders from Peach State Health Plan and the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University announced the official 2022 “Peach State Scholars” during a ceremony on Augusta University’s campus. The seven students make up the second class of Peach State Scholars participating in the Medical College of Georgia’s MCG3+ Primary Care Pathway Program.
The program, which launched in 2020, allows selected students to finish medical school in three years rather than four and go directly into a primary care residency in Georgia. In exchange for their commitment to serve in a rural or underserved area of the state, these students will receive a scholarship for tuition, which was made possible by a $5.2 million donation from Peach State Health Plan in 2021.
“We are excited to see the MCG3+ Primary Care Pathway Program expand into its second year with the 2022 Peach State Scholars,” said Wade Rakes, Chief Executive Officer, Peach State Health Plan. “These medical students will soon be on the frontline of medical care in Georgia’s underserved communities. As this innovative program continues, together we’ll help develop more doctors throughout the state of Georgia.”
Governor Brian Kemp matched Peach State Health Plan’s initial donation to kickstart the program, adding another $5.2 million in funding. This year, Governor Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly added an additional $8.7 million to the program.

Peach State Health Plan is pleased to announce that as of , Envolve Dental will be their new dental benefits administrator for the Georgia Families Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids Program. Envolve Dental is a Peach State Health Plan sister company, dedicated to providing dental healthcare benefits to individuals in need and improving efficiencies for dental providers. Listed below is additional information to assist with the transition to the new dental administrator.
Envolve Dental will honor authorizations approved by DentaQuest prior to January 1, 2017 with dates of service between January 1, 2017 through March 31, 2017 or until the DentaQuest authorization expiration date.
DentaQuest will be responsible for adjudicating and reimbursing all dental claims for covered services rendered to Peach State Health Plan Members on or before December 31, 2017.
Peach State Health Plans Medical Management Department will continue to process and manage the hospital and IV Sedation authorizations.
