Does Medicare Advantage Cover Cancer Treatment Too
All Medicare Advantage plans are required by law to cover at least the same things that Original Medicare covers. This means that your cancer care will be covered in the same way. However, because Medicare Advantage is a form of private insurance, some plans offer additional benefits that you don’t get with Original Medicare.
The important thing to keep in mind is that Medicare Advantage plans have provider networks, so you may be more limited with regards to which center you can visit for your treatment. This wont be relevant for emergency care, however.

Medicare Part B And Cancer Coverage
Additional expenses related to many outpatient services are also covered under Medicare Part B . For instance, Medicare covers certain cancer prevention and screening services. The American Cancer Society says that this includes coverage related to the following:
- The Welcome to Medicare visit you have with your doctor within the first year of being enrolled in Medicare Part B
- Your wellness visit every 12 months
- Annual lung cancer screening
- Testing for colorectal cancer, if youre at average risk for the disease.

Stone said that City of Hope intends to make CTCA hospitals nonprofit. That, Caplan said, wont obviate the challenges inherent in meshing together two cultures. Will they, for instance, have similar ideas about health equity? Among other opportunities, City of Hope could use the CTCA hospitals in its research activities. Do they have similar ideas around the sharing of data, or the involvement of patient voices, Caplan asked?
Thomas Tsai, a health policy researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a surgeon, also noted that CTCA has been controversial, not only because of its marketing but because of questions about whether it accepts all forms of insurance and how it selects patient cases.
I think its encouraging that CTCA will convert to a nonprofit status as part of the City of Hope System now, Tsai said.
But even nonprofit hospitals, Tsai said, often generate a lot of cash flow, and that means nonprofits can be as eager to make money as for-profits. Health systems often make the argument to state or federal regulators who must approve the merger that joining forces will be better for patient care, Tsai said, but thats not always the case.
