Such families will receive comprehensive medical insurance through Medicaid once they meet the other eligibility requirements of the program.
The program provides medical services to U.S citizens residing in the state of Colorado. However, the program will also extend to those with medical emergencies of life-threatening nature, even if such persons are not U.S citizens. However, for regular services, the program only focuses on U.S citizens.

What happens at Redetermination?
The Health First Colorado Medicaid program requires that eligibility be reviewed periodically. You will be mailed a packet or notified by PEAK that it is time for you to complete your redetermination through their site.
You must complete, sign, and return the packet to our office by the date listed on the paperwork. The packet and verification can be completed and uploaded into PEAK.

Emergency Medicaid covers medical emergencies that:
- Place the patients health in serious jeopardy
- Impair the patients bodily functions or
- Cause serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.
Examples include but are not limited to:

Emergency Medicaid does not cover:
- Follow-up care after the medical emergency
- Routine physician appointments
- Prenatal or postnatal care

Adult Medicaid beneficiaries have access to medically necessary eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses if contacts are necessary. Adults have a $2 co-pay per visit. You can apply for Health First Colorado at the hospital when you receive emergency treatment, after being discharged, or after care received in the past three months.
If youre pregnant and seeking coverage for future labor and delivery services, you can apply ahead of time for coverage. You can apply before you go into labor, during or after labor and delivery. You can also apply while at the hospital or after being discharged. Assisters at the hospital can help you.
While all applicants for Health First Colorado or Child Health Plan Plus will be asked to provide a social security number, you do not need a social security number to receive emergency services under Emergency Medicaid.
You will need to apply each time you receive emergency care. An application is valid for the full month in which the emergency medical condition occurred.

To qualify for Health First Colorado, you must be a Colorado resident, U.S. citizen or legal alien, and your income must* fall at or below the following income limits .
*If your annual earnings are higher than these numbers but you spend enough on your medical expenses to fall below these numbers, you may still qualify for medical assistance.
