Why Disabled Children Should Be On Medical Assistance
With Medicaid, you then open the doors to many opportunities for your child and your family. Opportunities that may not necessarily have available to you prior to the assistance. Many think that their coverage or spouses coverage from work is sufficient. Wraparound Behavioral Health Services is one of them.
And, it might be. But heres some food for thought: A good friend of mine has decent coverage from her spouse. However, her spouses union went on strike for 2-3 months. And during a strike, you dont get health insurance.
Thankfully she has medical assistance for her disabled child, but what if she hadnt? This is a process. It doesnt happen overnight. But as the old saying goes, Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.It can be a life ring.

UnitedHealthcare SCO is a Coordinated Care plan with a Medicare contract and a contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Medicaid program. Enrollment in the plan depends on the plans contract renewal with Medicare. This plan is a voluntary program that is available to anyone 65 and older who qualifies for MassHealth Standard and Original Medicare. Wraparound Services In Pennsylvania
Everyone on Medical Assistance in Pennsylvania has an ACCESS card. Most people on MA now receive mental health and drug & alcohol services from a Behavioral Health Managed Care Organization .
Wraparound Services, also referred to as Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services , are individualized mental health services provided in the home, school, or community to help keep a child at home. These services are also used in school or daycare settings to help keep a child in a regular classroom instead of a more restrictive classroom setting. Wraparound services should be designed to meet the specific needs of your child. The services are provided by trained staff working oneonone with your child to help with emotional or behavioral problems such as poor anger management or trouble getting along with other children. The staff also teaches children, their parents, and others new ways of dealing with problem behaviors that are keeping kids from having success in coping with their feelings and relationships. Children or adolescents may need wraparound services if they have Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, drug or alcohol problems, serious emotional problems, or mental illness that gets in the way of normal day to day functioning with family, friends, in school, or in the community.
The standard wraparound package usually consists of the services of three staff people:
Dhs Announces Redesigned Access Card
Last month, the Department of Human Services announced a redesign of the Medical Assistance ACCESS card.
The new card design features a white background with black lettering. The new design is intended to better resemble a commercial health insurance card. The new card will show the same information as the old yellow ACCESS cards but will no longer have a magnetic strip or signature strip on the back. The redesigned cards will be released during summer 2020, although the exact date is not yet known.
It is important to note that only new MA beneficiaries , as well as those needing a replacement of a lost or stolen ACCESS card, will receive the newly designed ACCESS card. Existing MA beneficiaries will not receive a new card and should continue to use the old yellow ACCESS card.
As a reminder, people can request a new ACCESS card, if needed, by calling the Pennsylvania Customer Service Center at 1-877-395-8930.
