Your Childs First Visit
For your childs first visit, we will review your childs health history form with you. Your child will be introduced to members of our dental team and be invited to tour our office. We welcome and highly encourage you to join your child in the treatment area during the initial examination. This will allow you to see our staff in action and ask the doctor any questions, voice any concerns, or discuss different treatments and care options for your child.
During the examination, the doctor will examine your childs head and neck, and then evaluate the health of their teeth, gums, and bite. Dental radiographs are taken only when necessary. The cleaning will likely be performed after everything has been demonstrated and explained in order to put them at ease. If your child needs any additional services, we will schedule it for a later appointment.

Kathy Barnes is having trouble finding a dentist sho will takeher Reach Inc. clients as patients.
For a variety of reasons, including poor reimbursement rates,most local dentists have stopped accepting new Medicaid patients.For Reach, a nonprofit organization that supports disabled adults,that means most of its 80 clients are not getting necessary,preventative dental care.
“I don’t know of a dentist that really takes new Medicaidpatients in Bozeman,” said Dr. Dean Mortenson, a dentist withBozeman Dental Associates. “There is nowhere to refer them to.”
Mortenson said he stopped accepting Medicaid patients in 1994.He will provide emergency dental care to people for free or for alow cost on occasion, but said he no longer wants to put up withthe Medicaid hassle.
“The people on Medicaid were the ones who never kept theirappointments and they seemed to be the most belligerent,” Mortensonsaid. “The paperwork was such a headache. It wasn’t worth it afterthe reimbursement.”
Medicaid reimbursements for dental work vary depending on theprocedure, said Randy Bowsher, Medicaid program officer for theMontana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
He stressed that while Medicaid pays a low reimbursement rate,it has a good record of paying more than 90 percent of itsclaims.
But the fact that Medicaid pays its bills is of no help toBarnes if local dentists won’t see her clients.
