Our Late Cancellation & No Show policy is 24 hours. Appointments need to be cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance. If appointments are missed , cancelled or rescheduled within the 24 hour period , a fee of $50 is applied and charged to the card on file. Homecoming 4 Veterans Program

We provide pro-bono sessions to veterans who struggle with PTSD symptoms as part of the Homecoming 4 Veterans program. Veterans who meet qualifications of a PTSD diagnosis, agree to attend 2 appointments per week and complete symptom tracking tools, will receive up to 20 free neurofeedback sessions.

DESCRIPTION

Biofeedback is a technique used to train an individual in self-regulation of a physiological processes not generally considered to be under voluntary control. Various measuring, recording instruments and monitors may be used in the training. Biofeedback training is done in individual sessions, group sessions, alone or with other behavioral therapies designed to teach relaxation. Biofeedback has been proposed as a treatment for a variety of conditions including anxiety, headache, urinary and fecal incontinence, constipation, pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

Neurofeedback might help relieve the symptoms of ADHD, but it can be expensive and more evidence is needed to prove that it is effective. Anyone considering neurofeedback should also contact the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research to ensure that the practitioner they have in mind is certified.

Hours And Insurances That Are Accepted:

I can accept most major insurances for counseling with biofeedback within the State of Minnesota. There is a list of the insurances that I can bill at the bottom of the page if you want to skip the explanation about billing biofeedback as a part of counseling that is in the next paragraphs.

There are many smaller insurance companies not on the list that we also accept. If you have one of those please inquire about it. But, you can be assured that I work with all major insurance in Minnesota and many smaller ones- except for HealthPartners and Medicare. There is a fuller list of accepted insurances later in the page that can confirm they will cover counseling that uses biofeedback as part of the healing process. Sometimes practitioners or people looking for resources get mixed information about what is covered. When clients or I have called to ask if counseling can be done with biofeedback and billed as counseling, the response is consistently that it can be done. Also, the Minnesota Healthcare Provider Manual describes that counseling with biofeedback is expected to be paid for by The State of MN healthcare insurance laws.

Will There Be Any Side Effects

Since Neurofeedback is training the brain, there may be times where the brain becomes uncomfortable with how the training is occurring. Common negative effects include feeling sleepy, irritable, muscle twitches, and a dull pressure in the head. These can usually be changed within a few minutes during the same session. At times your sleep pattern can change and this can be modified at the next session as well. Overall, brains typically do very well with neurofeedback with very few negative effects and these do not last. There may be many positive side effects and you may find that you look forward to your training.

SDCNF technicians are Master’s Level clinicians who are Marriage & Family Therapy Associates and Professional Clinical Counselor Associates. They are pre-licensed therapists and counselors working under the direct supervision of a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and receive weekly supervision. They have already received a Master’s degree with many hours of clinical training and experience and are trained to provide neurofeedback services. AMFT’s and APCC’s are approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. In an ideal world, we would be able to generate a long list of insurance companies and managed care organizations that have consistently paid for biofeedback services.However, the world we live in is far from ideal and insurance reimbursement for biofeedback continues to be inconsistent and unpredictable.

In order to try to bring some order to this topic, it is important to remember how third party reimbursement works. When billing to third party payers, we need to complete a claim form that provides specific information about what we did. In addition to the basic demographic information identifying your client, the claim form will include a diagnosis code and a procedure code. All of the decisions regarding payment will be based upon the combination of codes you provide.

The first step in the process is to contact the insurance company and verify coverage. The basic details of coverage may be available on-line, but it you want to determine if you will be paid for biofeedback services, you will need to call the insurance company. Payment may be restricted to participating providers or there may be higher deductibles and increased copays if you are not a network provider. Some services may also require preauthorization

Medicare

All of the Medicare carriers are now paying for the health and behavior intervention codes. In Florida, the allowance is $97 for the evaluation and $89 for individual treatment .

The Center for Brain Training does not accept insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid, and we request payment at the time of service.

However, some insurers do reimburse for our services, but reimbursement depends on your plan and whether it offers out-of-network coverage for behavioral health. If so, we encourage you to file a claim . Well prepare the claim form for you, and youll need to handle follow-up with your insurance company. We suggest you inquire as to whether you are subject to a different deductible when using out-of-network benefits. We are available to make changes to the claim form when appropriate if your insurance company denies your claim or sends your claim back with questions.

How Many Sessions Are Needed

Every brain is unique and may require more or less sessions than the average. This is dependent on various aspects, such as specific symptoms, brain functioning and learning, and severity of symptoms. However, research has shown that the average number of sessions is 20 for obvious changes. Follow up sessions are 45 minutes long and include 30 minutes of brain training. At that time, your brain can be reassessed for change and your clinician will determine if the average 20-40 sessions are best for your specific situations in order to have long-lasting changes. For best results, brain training would take place at least twice a week.

Do Insurance Companies Reimburse For Neurofeedback

Some insurance companies pay directly for the biofeedback insurance code 90901. Many will not. There are other insurance codes that have worked well for clinicians, including billing the psychotherapy code. But there are clearly plans that make it very hard to get reimbursement. Theres been a significant increase in success with insurance reimbursements over the last few years. The challenge still exists. Biofeedback is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid except for a few pain or neurological problems.

Many professionals have chosen to not accept insurance for neurofeedback and are reporting significant success. Clients who are looking for an alternative are often more willing to pay for this training versus other therapies. Clinicians taking cash will usually provide the billing for the client to file with their own insurance.

Neurofeedback uses the same CPT billing code as biofeedback 90901, which is gaining increasing coverage. Insurance companies may be restrictive about which diagnostic codes are used with 90901 or may not reimburse well for this code. Other billing codes can also be used.
