A Closer Look At Obgyns

An OB/GYN, otherwise known as an obstetrician-gynecologist, is a medical doctor who specializes in all aspects of womenâs healthcare. These medical professionals focus on treating issues with womenâs reproductive health, problems and care during pregnancy, and also after childbirth.

Different OB/GYNs conduct their practice in different ways, and some may choose to have an integrated health practice that focuses on womenâs health, but that provides general as well as specialized care rather than only care focused on reproductive health. Other practitioners focus exclusively on offering treatment of reproductive organ issues and pregnancy/childbirth-related concerns. Obstetricians focus on pregnancy and childbirth, while gynecologists are more concerned with general womenâs reproductive health the combination of the two is an OB/GYN.

OB/GYNs not only treat any problems that may arise in the female reproductive system, but many also offer preventative care and testing. Some of the most common disorders and issues that are treated by OB/GYNs include:

â Vaginal/urinary tract infections

â Contraception counseling

â Prenatal care for mothers-to-be

â Menopause transition

â Pap smears

â STD and HPV testing, prevention, and treatment

â Uterine fibroids

â Ovarian cysts

â Uterine and ovarian cancers

â Infertility treatment

â Sexual dysfunctions

This is particularly important for our currently pregnant patients, many of whom we have already started addressing these forms. So far we are seeing these being accepted without issue. Q& a Credit Card On File

What are the benefits to me?

Patients who have a credit card will no longer have to worry about statements and mailing in payments. You can also use it to pay for future visits without having to bring your card. Having a credit card on file will make checkâin and checkâout easier, faster and more efficient for patients.

How does this work?

During your visit, we will ask you to sign a âCredit on File Agreementâ. When our office receives remittance advice/information from your insurance company , any remaining portion of charges will be charged to your credit card. We will notify you by email FOUR TO FIVE DAYS BEFORE the charge is due to take place, and you may call our office if this presents a problem/hardship for you. A receipt will be emailed to you after the payment has been processed. If the payment is declined, we will request updated credit card information or an alternative form of payment.

What if I do not have a credit card?

It has been our policy that payment is due at time of service. We are encouraging patients to keep their Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account credit cards on file. If you do not have either of these types of cards, then you can use a debit or other credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.

How can I be assured that my credit card information will remain safe?

I have never had to do this at any other doctorâs office.

Don’t Miss: How To Know If My Medicaid Is Active

What This Means For You

  • Emergency services are covered regardless of your plan at any emergency department.
  • You will be required to seek non-emergency care from specific doctors, hospitals and health care organizations that are in-network with your Medicaid managed care plan.
  • WakeMed must get prior authorization to be paid for almost all services. If WakeMed is out of network, it is unlikely that we will receive authorization. This means you may not be able to receive non-emergency care from WakeMed hospitals and providers.
  • While our hospitals and emergency departments are in-network with the three plans listed above, not all of our physician practices accept Medicaid. Please contact your health care providers office before scheduling an appointment to confirm your Medicaid plan is accepted.

We continue discussions with the other two Medicaid managed care plans available in our area. If we sign an agreement and become an in network provider with these other plans, we will post this information on our web site at www.wakemed.org/insurance.
