Building Resiliency And Confidence

Resilience & Confidence

When things are going badly things tend to go very badly. This is the common path we hear from parents about their preteen daughters. Its a virtuous downward cycle of poor decision-making and defiance to structure or constructive criticism.

This downward staircase is typically reflective of a child who lacks resilience to traumas big and small and a child who lacks the skills and confidence to know how to manage these traumas and help create success.

We teach our students how to be engaged, advocate for their needs, set goals and develop a plan to meet these goals.

Relationships & Trust

Have hurtful things been said by your child? Are there things you regret saying or doing? Does your child lack acceptable boundaries in relationships? Sometimes the fear and frustration boil over and relationships feel broken.

At Asheville Academy we help heal those family wounds and find a new relationship together. We work with the child, the family back home, and then bring them back together.

Our relationship-based approach is one of our strengths. We have a purposely small, tight-knit family community of staff and students who work together to help relieve social pressures and anxieties.

We create opportunities to grow and prosper with one another and help students see the care and compassion the child can give and then receives back as a result.

Responsibility & Gratitude

Medicaid Hmo Or Tricare Insurance

For families that have Medicaid, HMO or a Tricare health insurance policy, and you would like your medical benefits to cover your childs behavioral modification program please contact the number on your insurance card and ask them for residential treatment centersin your network. This way you will have coverage. Self-pay programs start at about $8000 per month and up. They usually will only accept PPO insurance policies.

You can visit a single-child-insurance plan or some HMOs offer single case agreements .

A Single Case Agreement is a contract between an insurance company and an out-of-network provider for a specific patient, so that the patient can see that provider using their in-network benefits .

Outpatient Programs For Drug And Alcohol Addiction

Finding treatment options that work for your life is very important for success in long-term recovery. At Brightview, we take a different approach to addiction treatment. We are not your typical drug and alcohol rehab. In fact, we dont even like using the word rehab around here.

We offer comprehensive addiction treatment services in a supportive, intensive outpatient treatment environment. Our approach includes a combination of medication-assisted treatment, along with mental health services like individual and group therapies. There is a lot of evidence to support this approach and our patients see excellent long-term success in their recovery for substance use disorders.

We do not offer methadone at our treatment centers, and instead, we use other drugs such as buprenorphine and suboxone to safely ease the side effects of detoxification and withdrawal symptoms with less risk of a secondary addiction.

Read a letter from Dr. Ryan, our President and Chief Medical Officer, introducing you to BrightView and sharing how we approach addiction treatment differently.

Does Insurance Cover Residential Treatment Or Boarding School For Teens

Most health insurance policies do cover residential treatment. However, insurance will not pay for therapeutic boarding schools. The general rule is that in order for insurance to cover all or part of the costs, the facility must be medical in nature and offer some level of health services. Boarding schools do not meet these criteria, but residential treatment programs usually do.

Of course, whether or not treatment will be covered in a residential program will depend on your specific plan and coverage options. Most often, insurance will cover part but not the whole of the cost of treatment. Further, the insurance company will also likely have prerequisites that must be met before they see a justified need for a higher level of care.

Key Factors To Consider When Selecting A Boarding School For Your Child

The worlds best boarding schools for teens are not just places to learn academics. They are also safe havens for children to develop independence and character. Choosing the right boarding school is an important decision so its worth studying the criteria below before deciding.

  • Curriculum and Therapy Programs. The most important factor in choosing a live-in school for your youth is finding a program that has services to meet your childs unique needs. Consider academics, supervision, therapy options, and extra-curricular activities. Also consider your childs behavior and mental health issues and if the programs are designed to meet those needs.
  • Location. Ideally, a boarding school will be in driving distance of your family home so that more frequent visits are possible. However, finding a school that is the best fit for your child may be more important than location.
  • Cost. While in an ideal world cost would not be a factor, the truth is that boarding school is expensive and must be paid for by parents. Monthly rates for therapeutic boarding school can be as much as $2,000-$10,000. In addition to private funding, scholarships may be available and insurance may pay for part of the cost.

    Do You Have Health Insurance

If your insurance covers mental and behavioral health, some programs can bill insurance for Out of Network Benefits, which will cover the cost of therapy only. We encourage you to look at our article titled, “Can My Health Insurance Policy Help Me Pay for Residential or Therapeutic Boarding School?”. We may be able to help you find a program that can help you get reimbursed, but programs often require the full cost of the program up front, and even then there is no guarantee that you will be reimbursed. Most programs that do take insurance, however, can run a Verification of Benefits and tell you up front the cost range you will be responsible for.

What Is A Therapeutic Boarding School

A therapeutic boarding school is a tuition-based treatment center that combines education and therapy for troubled teenagers who may be dealing with behavioral issues, emotional or psychological disorders.

Struggling teens placed in therapeutic boarding schools in the United States, leave their family home and move into year-round housing at the boarding school with other students. There, your teen daughter or son will participate in the school’s academic program and receive behavioral therapy and often, family therapy as well, while participating in recreational activities or service opportunities in the local area.

Typically, a therapeutic boarding school is a highly-structured residential treatment program that helps young people build emotional and personal skills while continuing their education.

Sometimes You Cant Know What To Expect From Insurance Until After Your Teen Is Enrolled In A Program

Insurance will generally cover costs based on the diagnosis of your teen. In the case of depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies, most insurance plans will have at least partial coverage. However, these conditions must be diagnosed prior to billing and even verifying if your insurance will cover them. This can result in not know your insurance allowance until after your teen is enrolled and committed to a program.

Some plans will provide coverage for substance abuse diagnoses. Sadly, most behavioral or personality disorders such as Oppositional Defiance Disorder will not be covered by insurance mental health plans.

When Does A Teen Need A Residential Treatment Program

Teens who enter residential treatment centers are most often in crisis mode due to their mental illness or behavior issues. Some of the most common reasons a teen would need residential treatment include:

    • Problems with substance use or abuse
    • Issues with suicidal tendencies
    • Psychiatric disorders, such as eating disorders

Engaging in negative behavior that puts the teens life or future at risk, such as harming others or having aggressive tendencies, or being sexually promiscuous, are also common reasons for residential treatment.

It is important to note, while teens who enter residential treatment do have some of the most common mental or behavior issues, most are in total crisis mode by the time they enter residential treatment.

For example, instead of simply dealing with occasional anxiety or depression, the teen has issues with chronic depression or debilitating anxiety. Likewise, teens with a substance abuse problem that enter an RTC have most often tried and failed with outpatient mental health treatment or even inpatient programs or may have experienced an overdose.

Therapy With Horses: Building Relationships Based On Trust

Equine Therapy offers an integrated method to experiential learning, teaching students the power of authentic relationships through the guidance of the horse. Horses are used for therapeutic purposes because they are exceptional “mirrors” for our young women. The central aim of equine therapy is to help our struggling teen girls create healthy relationships, based on mutual trust and respect.

Many of our students struggle with emotional control, as well as both verbal and non-verbal communication. If a girl has negative body language or acts in a way that breaks the trust of the horse, the horse will respond accordingly. Horses sense and reflect these emotions and behaviors. Therefore, trust and respect becomes the focal point of the therapeutic goal.
