How Does The Medically Needy Spend

Texas Health Department Medicaid

Medically Needy provides Medicaid eligibility to qualified individuals and families who may have too much income to qualify for regular Medicaid programs. Individuals and families who meet all Medicaid program requirements, except that their income is above those program limits, can spend-down or reduce their income to Medicaid eligibility levels using incurred medical expenses.

Using A Unitedhealthcare Dental Provider

Depending on the type of UHC plan in which you enroll, your choice of dental providers may be restricted to only those providers within the UnitedHealthcare network, or you may also be able to visit dental providers outside of the plans network while still receiving at least partial coverage for your care.

A PPO plan may allow members to seek dental care outside of the UHC network and may still receive some coverage for the visit. You typically pay lower out-of-pocket costs when you visit an in-network dentist, however.

HMO plans restrict members to seeing dental providers within the UHC network. Any dental care received outside of the plan network will not be covered in most cases. Your care may be coordinated by a general dentist who will issue referrals to see specialists.

Doctor.com can help you find a Dentist who accepts United Health Care insurance in Louisiana. A dentist is a person qualified by a doctorate in dental surgery or dental medicine , licensed by the state to practice dentistry, and practicing within the scope of that license. There is no difference between the two degrees: dentists who have a DMD or DDS have the same education. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation. Generally, three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to graduate and become a general dentist. State licensing boards accept either degree as equivalent, and both degrees allow licensed individuals to practice the same scope of general dentistry. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist.

How Does Medicaid Work

The Medicaid program does not provide health care services for everyone. Your application will be reviewed for all Medicaid programs. If you are found eligible for Medicaid, you will get:

  • A letter in the mail from Medicaid telling you about your coverage
  • A Medicaid ID card
  • A Healthy Louisiana plan ID card, if you enroll in a plan.

Each time you go to your health care provider or pharmacy, take your Medicaid ID and Healthy LA plan ID cards with you. Show them at all medical visits before you receive any service. The health care provider or pharmacy will tell you if they accept your Medicaid benefits. You should also ask your health care provider or pharmacy if the service or prescription is covered by Medicaid before receiving the service or filling a prescription.

Medicaid does not pay money to you instead, it sends payments directly to your health care provider or pharmacy.

During this time, we will be sharing resources, training, and answers to commonly asked question. Our goal is to have each provider enroll during their designated provider week, if not sooner.

Dental providers that accept UnitedHealthcare insurance may include:

    • General dentists

    • Prosthodontists

The UHC network of dental providers may also include suppliers of dentures, braces and other dental supplies and equipment.
